At the International Shelter Foundation, we are proud to partner with Shelter Associates, an esteemed non-profit organization based in Pune, India, known for its pioneering work in urban development. Shelter Associates has been at the forefront of addressing the critical needs of slum communities through innovative solutions in sanitation and social housing. Founded by a group of dedicated architects in 1994, their mission is to ensure equitable access to essential services for the urban poor, using a data-driven, community-centric approach that empowers residents and transforms lives.

Together with Shelter Associates, we support a range of impactful projects that address the urgent challenges faced by slum dwellers. One significant initiative is the Menstrual Hygiene program, which educates women and adolescent girls about the importance of menstrual health while promoting the use of eco-friendly sanitary products like menstrual cups and cloth pads. This initiative not only addresses the financial and health challenges associated with traditional menstrual products but also helps combat the environmental impact of disposable pads. By fostering open discussions and community support, the program is transforming attitudes towards menstruation and empowering women to take control of their health.
